Security issues are at the top of decision makers´ priority lists. Networks are safeguarded against spam mails, virus and worm attacks and most every external attack possible. But two thirds of the damage is done from within, and up to now protection was minimal, if there was any protection at all.

Locally attached printers are often substituted with multifunctional, department level output devices. Confidential printouts have to travel intranets, and even extranets. While the output devices are often in enclosed rooms or technically protected against unauthorized access to the printouts the print data itself is open to attacks on its way from the workstation to the printer - up to now.

Some printer manufacturers support the Advanced-Encryption-Standard (AES), which is accepted by the US government as the standard for encrypting electronic data.

But only JScribe encryption enables vendor independent secure printing and therefore avoids unauthorised access and data theft.

The sophisticated JScribe Secure Print Solution data encryption secures the complete print environment: from clients (workstations) via servers to output devices (with Embedded JScribe): data can no longer be scanned from the network or redirected to unwanted locations.

• On the secure client - if the chosen output device has been configured for secure printing - Encryption Service and Security Preference Editor handle print job encryption and decryption preferences.
• On the secure device the data are decrypted and printed. Optionally the print job can be protected against unauthorized access until the user identifies himself, either via the device´s inbuilt front panel or through external measures such as card readers or fingerprint scanners.
