JAS - JScribe Application Server

Client needs

The efficiency of an IT infrastructure could be hugely increased by allowing devices of different manufacturers to communicate with one another, independent of operating systems.
As software developer or system vendor you are therefore developing individual JScribe applications for customers, using JScribe Software Developer Kit for this purpose.

The solution

The JScribe Application Server (JAS) is a platform for running JScribe applications under Microsoft Windows plus some administration functions. Since JScribe is designed to run in printers and MFDs, JAS also functions as a print server, so that it can accept print data input. Finally, it can also function as a Windows service, allowing it to run unattended, as a printer would. As a print server, it supports three kinds of input: “Line Printer Daemon” (LPD), “Raw Mode” and “Hot Folder” input.

Purpose

  • JAS is used for applications where the memory and storage requirements exceed the ressources available in the device
  • JAS can control multiple devices and integrate them into one environment
  • JAS can be used as the communication bridge between Windows applications and JScribe instances

JAS Modes

  • JAS has three different modes:
  • Service Mode
  • Console Mode, also called command line interface (CLI)
  • (ATL/COM) Server Mode

Client benefits

  • When JAS is installed in service mode, it can be set to run unattended, even when no one is logged in. This mode is designed for use on unattended printer servers.
  • JAS can also maintain multiple JScribe environments in parallel in service mode.
  • JAS can run any JScribe application
  • JAS is particularly useful in workflow oriented applications which include the handling of large amounts of print data and distribution of the data to various devices
  • JAS does not require JScribe devices. But with JScribe devices the amount of data to be transmitted across the network is dramatically reduced causing higher throughput

Some key benefits of JScribe summarized

  • JavaScript™ based application platform for Servers, PC‘s, print servers and embedded systems
  • Allows to execute applications without modification of code on any supported platform
  • Allows the interchange of information between any supported platform and application
